We spend the first few decades of life trying to figure out how things work, and when we finally do, our body gives out on us.
For men, this can mean this means starting to lose some of that sexual vibrancy in the first few decades of life.
It sucks. But sometimes, it’s part of life. And it’s nothing to be ashamed of.
Millions of men in the U.S. are impacted by erectile dysfunction. Just how many millions is still a bit of a guessing game. A Cleveland Clinic publication estimates that 52 percent of all men have ED and the prevalence increases with age.
But just because it’s part of life doesn’t mean that there is nothing you can do about it.
Here, we will talk about the so-called P shot, a treatment more and more people are hearing about a way to deal with ED.
Let’s look at what you need to know.
Define P Shot
Literally defined, the term “P shot” is short for the Priapus Shot, a very specific, trademarked and patented procedure controlled by a group called Studio Medicine. The term P shot has been inadvertently adopted to refer to the more general descriptor for this kind of procedure.
The more general procedure is a platelet-rich plasma injection. In a basic sense, a medical provider draws the patient’s blood, spins out the microscopic blood solids such as red and white blood cells and injects the remaining plasma into the penis.
You Read That Last Part Right
Yeah, you read it right. The P shot requires an injection into the penis.
But it’s not as bad as it sounds.
The provider will use a topical anesthetic called lidocaine to numb the injection site. For most men, the procedure is painless. The needle is very small, about half an inch long, and very thin.
There is a possibility for bruising after the shot. But it’s not common; nor are other adverse reactions. Because the shot comes from the patient’s own body, allergic reactions are impossible.
How Do You Know This Is for You?
To be blunt, this is a product for you if you have a hard time getting and keeping it up. The reasons vary. But the big sign for erectile dysfunction is if it’s difficult to get or keep an erection.
There are other signs that might surround ED if the main member of the disorder isn’t unreliable. Some signs are subtle but could show a larger problem with the patient’s hormonal makeup.
This is especially relevant for men who have had their sexual lives impacted by disease or major medical treatments such as cancer or diabetes.
Is This FDA Approved?
No, and that’s not a problem.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has the power to approve and regulate agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices, not medical procedures. While devices that are used in the procedure require FDA clearance, a PRP procedure itself does not.
Medical practice is a matter of study and review by various groups of doctors that certify whether they think a procedure is effective. There is increasing consensus around the P shot.
How Long Does It Take?
From start to finish, many procedures take about an hour, give or take a few minutes for how well an office is run and how quickly the medical provider does the procedure.
Remember, the procedure includes a blood draw and preparing the blood to be re-injected into the penis. That takes a little time. Sometimes, the procedure can be done in 30 minutes or less.
These procedures are done in a medical office and patients can leave and drive on their own.
Are the Effects Permanent?
No. But the effects last about a year. The results of the procedure differ across several populations and for several various factors. But, the procedure is performed intermittently.
This is a far cry from daily or per-use medication or injections. P shots could help get a patient off these types of medications.
However, the whole thought behind the PRP shots is that the platelet-rich plasma helps to facilitate cellular regeneration or to help new cell growth in the penis. This effect is what allows the penis to do as it once did.
The immediate and hopefully lasting impact is that blood flow increases to the penis and blood is better retained for longer-lasting and more satisfying erections. This also can lead to greater pleasure and sensitivity, increase in size and corrections of excessive curvature.
How Could Your Life Be Different?
This is a treatment that helps men do what they could do at an earlier point in life. It’s a manly activity that is the body didn’t breakdown that could be enjoyed by all men at all points of life.
While living with E.D. is the patient’s problem to deal with, it also impacts sexual partners which impact the patient. When one can’t perform, it’s a major blow to the confidence of the patient. And partners notice and often wonder if they are the problem.
This whole distressing cycle ends with a successful P shot treatment.
What Else You Can Do to Feel Younger
Erectile dysfunction is just one sign of a larger issue for many men. While the P shot is a very specific treatment for a specific problem, it’s required as a treatment for an issue that’s a sign of diminishing testosterone. Testosterone the hormone that drives male development, masculine growth, libido, and sperm production.
Testosterone and other hormones can be optimized to help men feel like themselves. After age 30, testosterone drops off dramatically and doesn’t stop dropping without intervention. Click here to check out what exactly men you can do to stop it.
